Activate Your Inner Pharmacy: Rhythm, Music And Biological Freedom
SOMA Breath® is not a traditional breathing meditation where you simply sit still, nor is it merely a relaxation exercise. It is a precise hardware upgrade for your nervous system. Harness the power of your breath to neutralize stress at the push of a button and shift into a state of pure life energy or deep hypnotic rest — validated by research from the University of Cambridge.
What is SOMA Breath® and how does rhythmic Pranayama work?
SOMA®Breath is a certified breathing method, that combines millennia-old pranayama techniques from the yogic tradition with modern music technology, breath retention (kumbhaka), and mindfulness practice. Through rhythmic breathing in time with specially composed music (“Breathe in Beats”), SOMA Breath® activates your “inner pharmacy”—the body’s natural release of dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin, and endorphins—and guides your nervous system into an elevated state of clarity, connectedness, and biological sovereignty.
Unlike pure mindfulness practices or wellness breathing exercises, SOMA®Breath uses a precisely structured three-phase protocol consisting of classical pranayama, rhythmic breathing accompanied by neuro-music, and targeted breath retention. This combination creates a state whose neural signature resembles that of psychedelic experiences—completely natural, legal, and safe.
The method was developed by Niraj Naik—a former pharmacist who, after years of research into ancient yogic breathing traditions and modern neuroscience, created the official SOMA Breath protocol. Today, SOMA Breath® is an internationally recognized, scientifically grounded method with certified instructors in over 20 countries.
The effectiveness of the method was scientifically investigated by Dr. Tristan Bekinschtein at the University of Cambridge. The study found that rhythmic breathing in time with music (the specific SOMA Breath® practice) measurably increases neural complexity—a marker for expanded states of consciousness that are otherwise achieved only through psychedelics.
How Does a SOMA®Breath Session Work?
A SOMA Breath® session follows a 3-phase protocol: It begins with an energizing dance before the breathing exercises to help participants let go and relax. The methodology and contraindications are explained. The breathing session begins with a guided meditation, followed by approximately 25–45 minutes of rhythmic breathing in time with specially composed music (“Breathe in Beats”) that includes targeted breath retention (Kumbhaka), and ends with guided silence and integration. During this sequence, your body’s own neurotransmitters are activated, and your brainwave patterns change. You experience a deep meditation or a measurable “natural high” driven by biochemical processes—not mere relaxation.
Hypnotic elements can be incorporated into the breathing process. This helps to clarify the subconscious and can bring to light blockages—some of which stem from childhood—that can then be addressed and resolved, leading to a new sense of direction.
Each session also concludes with a group discussion where participants have the opportunity to share their experiences. Integrating these experiences into daily life and fostering long-term positive personal development are key aspects.
Why Your Body Is Stuck in “Survival Mode” in the 21st Century.
Our modern world moves faster than our biology. The result? A nervous system that’s permanently programmed for “danger.” With SOMA Breath, we use Breathe in Beats (rhythmic music technology) to send your brain the signal it’s been waiting for all these years: safety. We trigger the “DOSE” cocktail (dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin, endorphins) and guide you out of stagnation and back into the flow.

The Science Behind SOMA Breath®: Heart Coherence and Alpha/Gamma Flow
Research by Dr. Tristan Bekinschtein at the University of Cambridge shows that rhythmic breathing increases neural complexity. We induce states of deep connection that are similar in effect to psychedelic experiences—yet completely safe, natural, and legal. You’ll learn to regulate your body’s chemistry on your own. A safe space for your personal growth
Breathing work of this depth requires a safe space. You’re not here for a wellness workshop—you’re in a professionally facilitated space.
Eva has been guiding people into precisely these inner spaces for over 15 years: as a SOMA Breath® Master Instructor and Transformational Coach, as a certified art therapist, and with many years of experience in psychosomatics and a background of many years in transformative coaching. Her PhD research at Viadrina University delved deeper into what she has been exploring in her practice for decades: how the breath can regulate our nervous system and enable lasting transformation.
In this space, your entire being is allowed to open up—because you know: here, you're seen and held, nothing is forced.

FAQ
The medical term for this symptom is tetany, caused by a temporary state called respiratory alkalosis — a normal, temporary reaction to rhythmic, deep breathing, mainly through the mouth, which is generally not done in SomaBreath. The increased oxygen uptake causes a brief shift in the blood’s pH balance, which alters nerve conduction. The tingling in your hands, feet, or around your mouth signals that your system is responding and your vagus nerve is activating. It subsides after 5–15 minutes. It’s safe, clearly explained, and part of the method—not a side effect. A mineral deficiency has also been linked to this. Make sure you’re getting enough minerals and trace elements.
When you consciously hold your breath, CO₂ levels in the blood rise—which, paradoxically, improves oxygen supply to the cells (the Bohr effect). At the same time, nitric oxide (NO) is released, a naturally occurring vasodilator molecule that widens blood vessels and increases blood flow. Nitric oxide also has an antimicrobial effect in the respiratory tract. In addition, endorphins and neuroactive neurotransmitters are released—what Niraj Naik, the founder of SOMA Breath, calls the “inner pharmacy.” In short: in our context, holding one’s breath is not a deficiency—it is a targeted activation.
Music in the SOMA sequence isn’t just an afterthought—this music technology provides structure. The beat tempo controls your breathing rate, the frequency bands support brain entrainment (theta/alpha waves), and the curated breathing pauses are musically integrated. The result: your autonomic nervous system follows the music into a state where rhythmic breathing becomes effortless. You don’t have to “do” anything—you simply follow. This makes SOMA deeply effective even for beginners with no prior experience in breathing practices.
