About Eva Makkos — Three Decades of Breath, Meditation, and the Art of Coming Home
Eva Makkos is a international senior breathwork facilitator, meditation master, and a certified Art Therapist and Trauma Therapist (in Germany) . For more than thirty years she has worked where science, living lineage, and lived practice meet — guiding people out of survival mode and back to themselves through original breath methods, deep rest, and contemplative practice held with real depth and heartful care.
The soul of an artist, the heart of a healer, the mind of a researcher
Eva doesn’t belong to one environment only. She trained as an artist and art therapist, complimented by ethnomedice and consciousness, spent decades in yoga and meditation, getting initiated into many practices, and has researched during her PhD how deep and long practice of yoga actually transforms a person. That rare combination is the ground she works from.
Most teachers ask you to choose — science or spirit, rigor or depth, the mind or the body. Eva’s whole path has been about the bridge between them. As she puts it: “I’m not between worlds. I am the bridge.” What that means for you is simple — nothing here is superficial, and no-one asks you to leave your intelligence at the door, common sense is taken for granted.

The mind of a researcher:
As a PhD canditate I use neurosomatics facts such as the Bohr effect, HRV to help you grasp your development on the biological level.

The heart of a healer:
As a trauma therapist with profound knowledge of shamanic healing methods, certified master breathwork facilitator various established schools i I create traumasensitive spaces for authentic experiences and integration. We resolve patters where they are stored: in your biology.

The soul of an artist:
Life can be created and shaped and become a piece of art with all challenges. Based on my roots in adopting the creative process to life's circumstances and Kashmir Shivaism i teach you the aesthetics of your souvereignty and recognition of your essence.
Thirty-five years of meditation — from the heart of lineages, not from an app
Eva has been meditating since 1987. She teaches contemplative practice from living traditions — the nondual Kashmir Shivaism (Trika), Hridaya, the “meditation of the heart,” and Yoga Nidra. As a long-term meditator she took part in a neuroscience meditation study (EEG-fMRI) at her local university, and in 2025 she spoke at the “Meditation and Science” congress in Berlin.
This is meditation as a path of awareness and inner refinement, not a ten-minute stress fix — a way of recognizing what lies beneath thought and feeling, and of finding the spaciousness that was always there. Eva deepens her practice of Kashmir Shivaism in seminar-retreats with Bettina Bäumer, one of the world’s foremost scholars of the tradition.
Rooted in living lineage

1999 at Burning Man
Eva has practiced yoga since 1992 and taught since 2011, with more than 1,000 certified training hours and students in five countries. She stands in the direct transmission of Krishnamacharya — the father of modern yoga — through Mark Whitwell, and in the nondual lineage of Kashmir Shivaism through Bettina Bäumer.
She has walked the demanding paths herself: the 500-hour Agama training in Thailand and its full curriculum, further yoga trainings ten-day silent Vipassana and Hridaya retreats, Vajrayana initiations in the Drikung-Kagyu lineage, darkness retreats and eight years of Bhakti practice with Amma. She teaches nothing she hasn’t lived for decades.
The Original Breathwork Methods
Eva is a SOMA Breath® Master Instructor and a certified Transformational Breath® Facilitator and Group Leader, and a member of the Global Professional Breathwork Alliance (GPBA) — the body whose standards define professional, therapeutic breathwork and the ethical and training benchmark for the field.
Her breathwork is regulating and deep, transformative — never a forced catharsis. Whether the breath is active and energizing or slow and settling, or altering the consciousness to access deeper layers of yourself the aim is the same: a nervous system that feels safe enough to soften, and a mind that grows quiet and spacious and gains insights.

Eva Makkos with Judith Kravitz, breathwork pioneer

“Mrs Makkos is very competent and trustworthy. She explained her work to me clearly and guided and supported me well throughout the session. I felt very well looked after.
It was a very profound experience, both physically and emotionally. During the session, I became aware of my vulnerabilities and areas of tension. Afterwards, I felt liberated and full of energy.
I can’t recommend this work highly enough to everyone.”

How I work
As a therapist with many years’ experience, I value profound and validated methods that are holistic and effective. The terms ‘somatic breathwork’ and ‘transformative breathing’ are currently all the rage. New programmes are flooding the market every month – often based on quick weekend certification courses or generic online courses. But if we want to delve deeply into the human nervous system, release emotional blockages, practise genuine trauma integration and develop spiritually, a short-lived trend is not enough. What is needed is absolute, well-founded certainty and a validated system.
Regulation first, always. We work from the body up, not from thinking down — because a system in alarm doesn’t calm through more analysis. Self-authorship, not self-optimization. You’re never a project to fix; you’re a person coming home. You don’t need experience, and you don’t have to choose the “right” method. You’re guided to the door that fits where you are today — and you move at your own pace.
Which qualifications add safety to your sessions?
The subtle difference: Why I chose the long way for you
That is precisely why – before the trend took off, and because of the depth of this work – I made a conscious decision to go against the grain and choose the most demanding and profound training programme in the world: the years of intensive training in Transformational Breath® with its pioneer, Dr Judith Kravitz, and her team of the world’s finest breathing trainers..
I adhere to the strict international quality and ethical guidelines of the Global Professional Breathwork Alliance (GBPA) for professional breathwork.
Furthermore, I am a Master Breathwork Facilitator and Transformational Coach with SomaBreath, which is also a 1.5 - year, scientifically grounded and holistic training programme. But long before that, I have been teaching pranayama and how to connect with oneself through the breath in my yoga classes since 2011.
For you, this means: when you entrust your nervous system and your subconscious to me, you are entering a space of the highest international expertise. No wellness hype, no altered states of consciousness without their integration, but rather well-founded, safe and life-changing identity architecture. You can experience it for yourself in the next session.
„Your breath is the bridge to your soul.“

How to reach true sovereignty.
Many promise quick fixes. But true transformation takes work – sacred, profound work on your very foundations.
My own journey has taken me, amongst other things, through over 1,600 hours of training in yoga and breathwork and decades of meditation, leading me to a realisation: you are not your story, your worries or your fears, but the rightful owner and creator of your body and being. As a facilitator, I help you to release the handbrake on your subconscious, to make your entire system fully habitable once more, and to utilise all your resources.
